The CSCC invites you to a forum on The AG’s Report: Biting the Bullet on Government Accountability.
The Centre for the Study of Communications & Culture (CSCC) invites you to a forum on The AG’s Report: Biting the Bullet on Government Accountability.
The Auditor General’s report is the formal audit and appraisal process of the public sector in Malaysia. The arduous task of carrying out in-depth audits of the many government agencies lies with the National Audit Department. It has offices in every state in the country and has access to all the ministries, government departments and agencies, and government linked companies.
The Auditor General uses a direct approach in his appraisals and has sought to call a spade a spade, a rare trait in our public service today. So when these reports are presented in Parliament they provoke vociferous debates, given the number and scale of offences and wrongdoings, ranging from irregularities, indiscipline and outright notoriety, including the mismanagement of public funds, the solicitation of bribes and engagement in corrupt practices. Year after year, all these cost Malaysia and Malaysians massive losses of millions of ringgit. Year after year, also, it appears that most of these losses are not recovered and the culprits are not apprehended.
The aim of this forum is primarily to enable all of us to have a dialogue with the AG himself, plus those entrusted with the responsibility of investigating further – and acting on – the AG’s report.
More specifically, the forum aims to:
- Raise awareness and grow public momentum in promoting government accountability, via the findings of the AG report.
- Cultivate critical analysis among citizens, to take an active interest in governance and government spending, and the utilisation of tax payers money.
- Introduce a new crowd-sourcing website to enhance the use of technology in promoting transparency.
